Welcome to Mission 4 Music
WHO WE ARE…
Mission 4 Music is a San Diego-based non-profit group with a
singular focus on bringing the universal value of music to all
generations. Mission 4 Music was founded in May of 2007 by life-long
San Diegans, all of whom are active participants in San Diego's
vibrant, multicultural music scene.
Though based in "America's Finest City," Mission 4 Music has it's
sights set on the entire country. We are forming partnerships from
San Diego to New York, Florida, Washington and everywhere in
between.
WHAT WE DO…
Mission 4 Music hosts events (such as The Wee Rock Music Festival)
that both raise awareness and funds to invigorate music education in
our public schools. Although data has proven learning about music
helps children socially and intellectually, music programs in public
schools are limited or non-existent.
With performances from local and regional bands, help from local and
international businesses as well as a wide range of non-profit
organizations, Mission 4 Music is able to create family-friendly
events with entertainment for all ages featuring music (of course!),
merchandise, craft and food booths, and much more.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO…
We believe music is central to living in harmony. When exposed to a
broad range of music, our intellect can approach fresh thinking and
new ways of living.
We believe existing successfully in a busy society starts with open
minds, which is why we hope to help all people—but especially
younger generations—become more eager to learn about and accept the
different people and cultures they encounter.
We believe the first, easiest step is through music. Diverse music
is everywhere in our communities, and it should be shared throughout
our culture. A greater level of harmony will benefit us as a whole.
"Music can lift us out
of depression or move us to tears-
it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear.
But for many of my patients, music is even more- it can provide
access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to
life. For them, music is not a luxury, but a necessity."
Oliver Sacks - Neurologist and author of 'The Man
Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat and Musicophilia: Tales of Music and
the Brain'.
