Welcome to Mission 4 Music
WHO WE ARE…
Mission 4 Music is a San Diego-based non-profit group with a
singular focus on bringing the universal value of music to all
generations. Mission 4 Music was founded in May of 2007 by life-long
San Diegans, all of whom are active participants in San Diego's
vibrant, multi-cultural music scene.
Though based in "America's Finest City," Mission 4 Music has its
sights set on the entire country and is forming partnerships
everywhere from New York City to Nashville to Portland to Kansas
City and everywhere and anywhere in between.
WHAT WE DO…
Mission 4 Music hosts events (such as the annual Wee Rock Music
Festival) which raise awareness and funds for worthy non-profit
organizations that invigorate music programs both city and nation
wide. We know that learning about music helps children socially,
intellectually, and that music programs give children the
opportunity to not only explore their creativity, but to also
express themselves.
With performances from local and regional bands, and help from local
and international businesses as well as a wide range of non-profit
organizations, Mission 4 Music is able to create family-friendly
events with entertainment for all ages and all audiences, featuring
music (of course!), craft and information booths, food, and much
more.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO…
We believe that music is central to living in harmony with each
other. When exposed to a broad range of music, minds tend to be more
open to new ways of thinking and living.
We believe successful living in society starts with open minds,
which is why we hope to help all people—but especially younger
generations—become more eager to learn about and accept the
different people and cultures they encounter.
We believe the first, easiest step is through music. Diverse music
is everywhere in our communities, and it should be shared throughout
our culture. A greater level of harmony will benefit us as a whole.
"Music can lift us out
of depression or move us to tears-
it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear.
But for many of my patients, music is even more- it can provide
access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to
life. For them, music is not a luxury, but a necessity."
Oliver Sacks - Neurologist and author of 'The Man
Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat and Musicophilia: Tales of Music and
the Brain'.
